It is with great sadness that I share the news that our 13 year old iguana named "Big Green" passed away on Sunday, July 27th, 2010. We believe he had fallen ill a few days prior since he hadn't been eating and bit C on Saturday while trying to hand feed him his favorite treat papaya. He passed away in the comfort of his homemade sanctuary and will forever rest in a secluded corner of our backyard. He was the wildest pet we had even had and lived by his own rules. He will be greatly missed and never forgotten.I urge anyone considering an iguana as a pet to do alot of research and really investigate whether it is the best choice for you. They are not like a dog or cat and can live over 15 years. As tame as they may be they are never truly domesticated and that should always be in the back of your mind when handling them. They are gorgeous creatures with clear personalities, and they deserve to live in an environment where they will be taken care of and never abandoned.
