Much Needed Exercise

Now that it is alittle cooler out the kids can get some much needed exercise outside. It's funny how outside Moby is much more dominant and tends to be in charge, whereas in the house Lola is Queen.
For alittle guy Moby is pretty fast and manages to not only catch up to Lola but knock her over quite often.

Moby somehow manages to look slightly menacing, well...not really.
I love her face in this one, classic Lola.

When OH When Will the Late Night Crazies End!?

Well yet again last night the pups were up way too late running around like maniacs. The late night crazies are getting later and later, and my 6AM alarm is holding steady. Lola will be 2 in December and Moby will be one in less than a week and I hope things calm down. This weather isn't helping since they aren't getting their normal amount of exercise and around 10:30PM seem to realize they want to play, and play hard. Everyone keeps saying that by 3 Lola will be alot calmer and Moby in about a year, time seems to be moving very slowly!

A List of Misbehaving

(<-- Lola looking extra guilty, although I can't remember what for at the moment) Last night while attempting to clean up a bit I had to put the dogs in the bedroom otherwise they would attack the vacuum like it was a beast from hell come to slaughter us all. So, I had them in there for quite awhile because I got caught up but I could see Moby through the slots of the door and hear him crying to come out so I didn't pay too much attention. Lola on the other hand.....she was quiet and out of site...therefore up to no good. Sure enough when we let them out we found a wake of destruction from Lolly Girl. She took out her anger at being locked away on a blu-ray movie and a Playstation 3 controlled that were on the tv stand. Since we didn't catch her in the act there was no point in getting mad at her. So I started thinking about the abundance of things that have been destroyed since bringing home the pups (but I must say that Lola is much more of the destructive chewing type whereas Moby just like to dig...in the walls) so I thought I would share a list:

- 3, yes 3, Blu-tooth headsets
- 2 Playstation 3 wireless controllers
- 1 XBOX 360 wireless controller
- our last couch (in their defense it was used and god only know the enticing scents they picked up on it)
- our Scarface Collections Edition DVD case
- a couple Playstation game cases
- A Blu-ray movie
- 2 laundry baskets
- countless stuffed toys
- 2 pairs of my pj pants
- 2 supposed "no pull" harnesses
- a million pairs of socks (ok maybe not a million)
- a bunch of magnets I had made that were on our fridge, one was a picture of me and C that Lola scratched up, and another that was a picture of Lolly that made her very angry
- any shoes they can sink their teeth into
- my car upholstery will never be the same thanks to thousands of little pug needle hairs permanently stuck in the fabric
- 2 Steelers hats
- 3 fairly deep holes in the dry wall thanks to Moby and his hatred of being locked out of a room where something is going on
- the carpet in our bedroom which they love to pull on
- the paint on our bedroom door

I tried to find a picture of Mo where he looked even slightly remorseful or guilty for having done something wrong and have come to the conclusion I have none! I am now convinced that Moby never really feels guilty or even cares when he gets caught being naughty. Mostly he just runs away and finds something else to occupy him, OR he puts on his cutest little sad face so you feel bad for yelling at him because he's so pathetic.

In Loving Memory of Samuel aka Big Green

It is with great sadness that I share the news that our 13 year old iguana named "Big Green" passed away on Sunday, July 27th, 2010. We believe he had fallen ill a few days prior since he hadn't been eating and bit C on Saturday while trying to hand feed him his favorite treat papaya. He passed away in the comfort of his homemade sanctuary and will forever rest in a secluded corner of our backyard. He was the wildest pet we had even had and lived by his own rules. He will be greatly missed and never forgotten.

I urge anyone considering an iguana as a pet to do alot of research and really investigate whether it is the best choice for you. They are not like a dog or cat and can live over 15 years. As tame as they may be they are never truly domesticated and that should always be in the back of your mind when handling them. They are gorgeous creatures with clear personalities, and they deserve to live in an environment where they will be taken care of and never abandoned.

Lola and Moby Facts

Name: Lola Jean
Breed: Pug/Beagle (her only Beagle traits are a slight snout and longer legs)
Birthday: 12/12/08
First Day Home: 2/27/09
Weight: 28 lbs
Nicknames: Lolly, LeeLee, Slo Pup( clearly sarcastic since she is never slow at anything), LoLo, little girl, the ORIG (short for Original), Precious, Pretty Girl, Miss Piggie, Piggle, Princess
Favorite Food: Chicken and vanilla ice cream
Favorite Toy: Used to be her black and white stuffed bunny, but now that she has Moby I would say he is her favorite
She loves: EXERCISE! She loves to run around the backyard with Moby, be chased around the house and rough house on the bed with Daddy. She loves to sleep til the late afternoon and stay up til 1AM! Car rides and watching the world go by. To be cuddled under the blankets in the morning. She loves Flossie chew toys.
She hates: animals on the TV, loud noises and being without her little brother.
Personality: Lola is very active and alert, she is somewhat anxious and hyper, which I am told is typical of the breed. She is very friendly and loves people and dogs. She is a fussy eater at times because she has trouble chewing certain foods because she is missing some teeth on the top. Her tongue is almost always sticking out (imagine the tongue of a beagle in the head of a pug!), and she just loves to give kisses. She is very affectionate and intelligent.

Name: Moby Binks
Breed: Pug
Birthday: 08/02/09
Weight: 18 lbs.
Nicknames: MoMo, Binky, the Binkman, Dinky Doo, DinkDink, Mr. Big, little boy, little pig, Mama's boy
First Day Home: 10/10/09
Favorite Food: Pretty much anything, but mostly ice cream and any type of chicken
Favorite Toy: Doesn't really have a favorite but I would have to say this plastic candy cane toy we got him for Christmas
He loves: FOOD! ANY TYPE OF FOOD! To be held and cuddled like a baby. To chase Lola around the back yard and flip her over and bite her neck (all in love!). He loves to chew on Flossies as well, any type of chewy treat makes him happy.
He hates: When we put on his collar and harness to go for a walk, he will run around avoidin you and then roll on the floor hoping to pull it off. Being alone! Being away from Lola. Not being able to jump on the bed himself because he's a peanut. He hates any type of outfit I put him which is disappointing because Lola loves to wear shirts and dresses, he's just an all natural type of boy.
Personality: Moby is pretty much the total opposite of Lola, he is very relaxed and calm. He does have his moments of pug puppy craziness but overall he loves to lay around and chew on a toy. He puts up with Lola constantly pestering him and loves her to death. He is very affectionate and wants to be curled up on your lap as much as possible. He is also very friendly and loves people.

Both Lola and Moby were purchased from a breeder in Paterson and have been in great health since we brought them home. They both sleep with us in our bed at night which can be very annoying some nights. They both eat Wellness dry dog food but I am thinking of switching them to a homemade diet in the next few months. They are both micro-chipped through Home Again Pet Recovery Service.

A Trip to the Dog Park

Since I was home today and the weather was not brutal we decided to take the dogs to the park in Ridgewood since they haven't been there in months. Moby loves to perch himself up on the hammock in the backseat and look out the front window like a big boy.

The kids looking out the very slobbery window waiting for Daddy.

The Only Thing to Do in this Heat is Chew!

In an effort to drain some energy we bought a mega Flossie for the dogs to split and gnaw on. Apparently it isn't really doing the trick since they are running like around like chickens with their heads cut off, but it was worth a shot.

90 degrees + humidity = dogs inside :(
